Back again

Hi there,

I've been away for almost a couple of months. Too much work, basically - even though the last month was actually my summer holiday image

So many things needed to be done that I had to spend less time on the internet... and cutting down my time on Ebay was not an option image

So, did I miss anything important? I probably did. I'll have to browse through the old threads. But now that I have some time again I have some interesting stuff ready for you in the days to come. A coin gallery... a giveaway... a possibly unique coin... and who knows which other ideas that may spring from my twisted mind image

Anyway, it's good to be back.

  • Yes, I have noticed that conder tokens is the new big thing. What happened to good old-fashioned gothic crowns? I have a single conder token myself, it's from Bath. It came in a large lot of coins that I bought a few years ago.

Shep - although I have worked a lot I have still managed to find some nice coins for my collection. Don't you worry. Pics are coming image

  • Thank you all -

Well Cache, I had to be silent for a while to focus on my work. Hope you enjoyed your visit! As I recall the weather was reasonable in April. You should be glad you chose that exact month for your visit. May, June and half of July was clouds, rain, cold weather image

Welcome back Marcel. The Nepalese coin is outstanding.
    Former owner, Cambridge Gate collection.
  • Dimitri, the coin was issued by the ruler of the kingdom of Kathmandu, one of the three kingdoms at that time within the Kathmandu Valley. The two others were Patan and Bhatgaon (Bhaktapur).

The coin is quite scarce and rarely offered for sale, especially in such a high grade as this one. It has barely circulated. Not all text on the coin is in fact legible, it's some kind of "pseudo-Persian".

The date of the coin, 775, is found at the bottom of the reverse. The AD date is found by adding 880 to the Nepalese year.

I have been collecting Nepalese coins since 1996 and this is one of the better pieces in my collection.

If you wish to see more Nepalese coins from my collection, try this link:

I keep updating it every week.

Dimitri, you still in Athens? or did you escape the Olympic madness and go to the islands?

  • Strangely enough, a coin similar to the one I pictured in this thread has just been offered for sale on Ebay - in case someone is interested. The seller is quite OK, I have bought lots of coins from him. He accepts payment in the US and has the coin sent registered from Nepal.
