Showa 61 (1986) Japan Mint Bureau set (Krause #MS18) contining uncirculated examples of the standard ¥1, ¥5, ¥10, ¥50, ¥100, and ¥500 coins and a ¥500 commemorative of the Emperor's 60th year on the throne. Mintage 642,000. Another set (MS19), lacking the commemorative, had a mintage of 517,000.
This was the third year that mint sets were encased in hard inert PVC-free plastic instead of those horrible vinyl folders.
Edited to correct the date.

<< <i>That is a nice set and the holder a big improvement over the old vile PVC ones. >>
Nice set, I have one from the 80's and I am going to have to de-entomb them from the plastic holder, the set does not have the 500 Yen coin. But I do like the new 500 Yen coin with the unique
way of counterfit protection as shown here -----> 500 Yen Coin

<< <i>I saw an 188? 1 yen at my local dealer - he was all excited about it, it is a large silver coin with a dragon design and was in AU condition - looked very nice - he has it priced at $750.00 - wow, is that what they are worth? >>
The range for genuine XF-Unc (without chop marks or "Gin" counterstamps) is roughly $200 to $15,000+.
If your dealer doesn't know the actual date, I don't trust his attribution as genuine - he simply doesn't know enough for his opinion to be relied on. (One of the characteristics that has to be analyzed is the quality of the calligraphy, and how can someone who can't read the dates judge that?) Remember, these coins were heavily counterfeited when they were current, and are heavily "replicated" now.
it out again when I go back - maybe he will let me photo it and I will post it for you.

PS - That is a nice set you've got there!!!!
