Will PGCS grade low-grade, worthless (<$10) coins?

GeomanGeoman Posts: 2,491 ✭✭✭
I am thinking about sending in some low-grade Morgans to form the basis of a grading set. However, in the back of my mind, I seem to remember reading a post about how PCGS will not grade lower-grade coins that are worth less than the cost of slabbing. This was mainly to help reduce the volume of submitted coins, and reduce the turn-around times. Does anyone remember anything like this? Or am I dreaming?

I want to send in some 1881-S Morgans in G-4, VG-8 and F-12 condition. Will PCGS grade these?

  • They graded a IHC I sent in that came back as as a F02, worth a lot less than slabbing, but it was a free submission....

yes! As long as they get their grading fee, they will grade.

And the coin is problem free. PCGS is as strict (well, just about so) with super low grade coins as they are mint state. If there are evident problems you'll get it back bagged, near worthless to begin with or not.

"They'll grade anything. Just ask Marty."

And if you ask nicely, they'll even give the slab your pedigree. Think about it, there is an extensive number of individuals who have had high grade collections pedigreed to them, but how many individuals can claim they have the worst of the worst pedigreed to them?!!!

Interesting...... maybe I could have PCGS label it "Grading Set" if I ask nicely?

    Yep, it was a dream.

  • I have seen countless coins worth less than $15 in PCGS slabs, so yes, they will grade them.
