The Paris Medal Mint has had a tradition of producing visitation medals to be made during the visits of royalty that goes back centuries. There is a wonderful series featuring the women of Napoleon's family that I call "The Ladies". The series is distinguished by legends on the obverse, written in Greek letters but in the French language. This is one of the more difficult of the series to collect, the visit of Princess Elisa, Grand Duchess of Tuscany. The medals were popular with early collectors and the original dies by Brenet broke quickly. This example is from the second engraving by Andrieu, probably actually struck around 1810-1811.
