  • Hello,
    as hard as it is to determine from scans of coins, I am sorry to say I also think it has been harshly cleaned in some abrasive manner. It looks unnatural.

    First thing, before reading any replies, was I thought it was polished. I sure hope that isnt the case!
    Scans are deceptive.
    Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground.

    What you mistake as luster is really just the shine of the metal. Luster and shine are two completely different things. As the others have said it has obviously been cleaned. mike

    Also, the brownish spots on the reverse behind the sail and at the hyphen between 1620-1920 are of the type often seen on cleaned or dipped coins when dust or moisture settles on reactive metal newly exposed in the cleaning process...
    Wisconsin nationals: gotta love 'em....
