WHY?

Why would an elderly man walk into a coin shop and state that he wanted to sell 38 silver dollars for face value? This actually happened.
Today the gentleman walked into my local coin shop, stood right in front of the display case which held the Morgan and Peace Dollars and said that he wanted to sell his bag of 21 Morgans and common date Peace Dollars at face value. Sure, most were cleaned or well circulated, and a couple had been buffed, but still... He said he wanted to sell them at a coin shop so they would be sold to collectors rather than just spending them at Albertsons.
The owner of the shop is on vacation and the lady running the shop didn't have permission to buy any coins while he was gone. He said, "When someone wants to sell you something at a good price, you should buy it." She bought them with her prescription money.
When I came into the store, she wanted to sell them to me. The whole lot.

Perhaps he just wanted to make sure they went into collectors hands and didn't want to go through the work of selling them?
I just can't understand why he didn't want at least silver value for them. (Although she couldn't have bought them at that price.)

Yeah, I bought them at slightly below spot. She needed to get her prescription money back. The majority will make good pocket pieces.
