POLL #3 - State Quarter Challenge 2001 - RESULTS

RESULTS - The four losers were all pretty close, but the winner, Rhode Island had about 2:1 vs. the competition.

Going to do several polls to pick the best state quarter design from the first five years. In five or so years, will do another poll for the second batch of 25 and then have the final elimination for the -BEST- state quarter design.

Five polls, one for each year and then the top five from each year will be in the semi-final poll. The design that gets the least votes from all the polls will get the honors of being -THE DOG-

    I'm with RI also.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

NY is one of the most unimaginative designs of them all -- a state outline flanked by the SoL? A first grader could have done it.

Conversely, RI is one of the best -- beautiful design, strongly evocative of the state -- and gets my vote.

Funny thing is, both NY and RI were designed by the same guy, forum regular dcarr.
  • I voted RI because I love ships on coins. However I also like VT because of the sugar maple trees. I would have voted for that instead if I knew it was getting so few votes!

NY, VT, and KY are all static designs. Both NC and RI have a a dynamic feeling of movement to them. It was hard to pick between them. NC had the historic tie in but RI was more astheticly pleasing to the eye. I finally went with RI as #1 with NC as a close second with KY, VT, and NY following in that order.

Actually, I find the Vermont design most appealing.

It's probably because I have a soft spot for trees.

I like all of the first four, with RI being the nicest. Just don't care for the KY one, though. Can't believe that it got all of the "oohs & ahhhs" when it was unveiled.

I didn't like RI because it was yet another boat. (We already had a boat on NJ and VI). And since then, even more states have included a boat somewhere on thier coins (NJ, VI, RI, Maine, FL, Missouri).

I can only guess that VT appeals to me because of the nature look to it. It's like looking at a picture of an interesting land scape.
  • Gee, as a native Rhode Islander, born and bred, I'm touched by all the posts. The bridge on the quarter is the Newport Bridge. I've been over and under that bridge countless times. Seeing my state quarter makes me homesick. The best beaches in NE are in RI. The resturants are awsome too. Unfortunately, RI rarely has major coin shows - as far as I can tell.

Vermont. I'm a sucker for trees on coins.
