I have two very comparable 1855 halfpennies.

Nice coins and pics. What kind of light are you using and where is it positioned?

I'm using a single OTT light, placed behind the coin. There are no angled glass pieces, etc used here.

The scans don't even hint at the luster seen in the digitals.

what a difference!! Just ordered a Nikon Coolpix 3200 last nite. Can't wait to do some new shots myself. Nice work Tom.

Nice photos, and the luster certainly does just pop off the coin,,, so does the fingerprint and the spittle blow spots,,,That scan hides alot.

Interesting choice of words here; at first I thought you were discussing whales but now I see it's just about an over-stimulated coin collector in the distant past.
