They had them on the display at the Portland ANA. They are really nice. Only problem is the Liberty Nickel series has 33 business strikes and 31 Proof strikes so I would need two to hold the entire set.

    Nice, expensive, but nice.

These hardwood display/storage boxes feature a rich, cherry wood FINISH and are lined with black felt. Each case is intricately crafted

Please note that they say on the description, cherry finish, NOT cherry wood! I could do those with genuine cherry, or oak, or walnut, or cocobolo, purpleheart, etc etc etc....... personally I am not impressed by 'em.....

I like 'em. However, they list both boxes as having the same dimensions...which I doubt. Those of us with safes are kinda picky about actual dimensions.

Line them with Intercept Shield & we're good to go!

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • The correct dimensions will be up in a little bit.

We started selling them at this last Baltimore show and we will be bringing some to the ANA show next month.
As long as we have any left, we will bring them to Long Beach as well.

I doubt it,both PCGS and NGC slabs will fit in NGC plastic boxes but not vice versa. The $29.95 wooden box looks great though. Hi there Carol!

Those new boxes are very attractive, definately a huge step up from the blue plastic ones. I can't decide which size I like better, so I'll just have to get a couple of each :-)

I suppose I should feel ashamed.

I use the cardboard cartons that NGC ships in and EVERYTHING fits.

Solid should strike a deal with HRH for PCGS to sell his display stands image

I wonder if we could figure out the position of the tape on those novelty "click clack" blocks and apply em to slabs.

Go to a show with some and if they wanna see em, just fan em out.

Correct me if I am wrong ... does not finished/varnished/stained wood emit fumes that are not kind to coins? PCGS holders are not air tight, after all.

Good point, hmmmmm what to do what to do. Since they have the PCGS logo on them they might be endorsed by PCGS if so and my coins crud up, I can always send them back for a grade guaranty review and have PCGS pay for them since their brand of boxes caused the coins to be ruined.

Nice boxes, but I don't think the folks at the bank will care one way or the other how nice the box is that goes into their vault.

Tom, they aren't that hard to do, the liner would be a bit trickier, but all in all, not all that bad. No, I don't have any pics of anything in that order, (although I could) just commenting on the price being paid for non-cherry "cherry" wood. I am a bit of a wood "purist" i.e., snob..

Correct me if I am wrong ... does not finished/varnished/stained wood emit fumes that are not kind to coins? PCGS holders are not air tight, after all.

Properly finished and cured, there really should not be any hazards to the coins. A quality polyurethane dries with a very hard finish, which should seal the wood and any "stain" fumes. Waxed finishes would have some fumes and could cause problems, although with a proper absorbant, that would be minimal in MHO.

A Coin box made out of zebra wood or purpleheart would be magnificent!! But how much would such a box be... Those are expensive woods!!

  • maddogalemaddogale Posts: 859 ✭✭
jhar, Purpleheart has one drawback...if exposed to much sunlight over time it will "brown" and the purple color will fade out, although it can be sanded down and expose "new" purple wood. With special finishes (pure tung oil) and care, the colors should stay fast for many years. Zebrawood would be a good choice also, and quite cool looking. Costs would be a bit more, but without the lining, using just the natural beauty of the wood with routed slots to hold the slabs, I don't see where it would be much more than half again as much. The key is to make template so one could cut out many exact size "parts" and then fit them on an as-need basis, that cuts down on labor costs. Of course with me working full time, this is my hobby, not my life, so my "labor" is cheaper.....image
