I didn't mind the small one, but now I see the smaller banner superimposed on a big, fat black bar that says "PCGS Recommends". Do we really need that bar? After all, it is pretty obvious that PCGS is recommending whoever happens to have a banner ad at the top of their forum pages!
***EDIT***
I edited out the title of this thread, not because I was asked to, but because I decided it was time to let it die down. 'Nuf said. Of course, having a period in the title will probably draw just as much attention to it, as would putting in the word "disregard".
The original title of the thread was "OK, that banner ad is really annoying, now". This thread came off as being rather ungrateful to our hosts, which wasn't my intention. We resume with the original content of the thread, but it is time to let it fizzle out. We'll all adjust to the banner ad eventually.

Other people don't like it.
Couldn't this open them up to legal troubles if they say "PCGS Recommends XYZ Company" and XYZ company is revealed to have been ripping people off? Also, what do you bet they'd let NGC put a banner up if they paid enough? I can see it already: "PCGS Recommends NGC"
Same for me. I have Norton Security, and I see "PCGS Recommends:" and that is it. I guess either PCGS recommends nobody, or they recommend blank, black space. It takes up too much of the top of the screen. PCGS, please lose this ad.

Just about says it all, though what it's saying hasn't much to do with PCGS.

Hey, don't give them any ideas!

ditto
the banner is in the page design, the ad, is an ad - at least we are spared the ad message

<< <i>They should balance it out with a bar at the bottom with dealers they don't recommend. And sidebars with dealers they're not sure about. >>
Not enough room for all of that.
<< <i>I simply CANNOT understand why people would complain about advertising on a FREE forum >>
Actually, it wasn't the ad I was complaining about. Not really. Just the big black bar they added, sometime today. The banner ad by itself wasn't so bad. And as I said before, I'm grateful to PCGS for these great forums, and they should be able to get some revenue out of them somehow.

We're a bit spoiled and idealistic, and many of the longtimers have a protective attitude about the place. I've visited other types of forums so I know how good we've had it here. And PCGS obviously has the right to do whatever they want. Right or wrong, some of us feel like we own small plots here and have a right to veto billboards and fast food restaurants that we can see outside our front window. Keep them downtown on the main page or separate link pages.
<< <i>Yup...terrible. I had the single banner blocked, but now the blue bar is there and it's agrivating. >>
My guess is that they did it to annoy all you ad blockers.

<< <i>Most people complain on this forum if someone is trying to sell. Why hasn't anyone said it should be on the BST forum only? I can't believe I'm the first to think that. >>
I disagree. Considering this is PCGS' website/forums I think they have every right to advertise anywhere they feel the need. Bandwidth is not cheap. That said, I agree that the "PCGS Recommends:" and the contrasting black background are a little much. I thought the way they displayed it originally was much easier on the eyes.
