Most desirable Civil War Commem

What would be the most desirable confederate commem known? More specifically 'the coin' is it in the JFS sale? Thinking I might like to add an extraordinary commem to my collection but, I would like it to be a very, very special and desirable coin. Appreciate any thoughts.

  • The Confederate coin I could find is the 1861 Half Dollar and it has a mintage of only 4. Im not sure if its a commem though, just remember reading about it.

Of the Civil War Commems, the one that moves me the most has always been the ANTIETAM - I don't know if one is in the JFS sale or not - but a stuningly toned Antietam would be hard to beat Doc! image

  • The Stone Mountain and Gettysberg are really neat designs.

  • Agree with everyone but, what Confederate themed commem. [Lincoln, Grant, Stone Mountain, Antietam or Gettysburg?] is the single most heart stopping - eye appealing specimen known. Is there one coin of this group that is 'The Coin'?

    Wait a cotton-pickin' minute!

These are all Union commems, not Confederate. image
  • Now that you mentioned the Lincoln, I would have to say as far as eye appeal that would be my pick. Does that surprise anybody ? image

    How 'bout this one?

  • As a youth no one had to explain to me that Grace Kelley was pretty...and I still think so. This is what I'm looking for:
The coin that you remember 20 years later after seeing it once
The coin that keeps you monogamous...no need to complete a set because the others will never equal it
Double moose, Triple godzilla, King Sacha Bobo, etc., etc. and all the other adjectives
But first does this coin exist?
