If serious, I think, for instance, an octagon-, or the like, type holder would really be nice, BUT, it probably couldn't hold all the necessary coin info, barcodes, pedigrees, etc, and they don't "package" as well as rectangles, and are probably more expensive to produce. It would be nice to have a level of slabbing that offered this, and other options (high end slabs). Hey, if the end-user is willing to pay (and pcgs is looking for new profit centers) then what the heck.
I think the current rectangles are ideal shapes for slabs. I remember the PCGS regency holders, they were sort of rectangles with curved edges, but could be called rectangles nevertheless.
Yes. A smaller square slab with the info on the edge would be a nice OPTION. That would allow for a new breed of slab albums and possibly encourage more set building.

I thought about what MrEureka said, and it ain't a bad idea. I hadn't thought about the edge labeling. I suppose if one had a smaller square slab with a top label like you see on SEGS holders, it would not only fit into albums better, but it would also be easier to see what you had when they were all in a box (thanks to the top-labels).
I can't stand rectangle shaped slabs. They look stupid. I put a post across the street (polls), about round slabs. Also, Millinieum Grading has a slab that has a rounded top. It looks allot better that these rectangle things. Why do people want to put round coins in rectangle slabs? They don't put currency in round protectors do they? If they had round slabs, or at least the option, there would not be the problem of today concerning the reverse, or obverse being upside down. I drew up plans for one with even the info being place inside, not touching the coin, but haven't pattened it yey. But I'm going to try
I would totally support having a certified holder small enough to where you could display them in a quality album. As far as the shape goes, it's less important to me.
Altho, a different design would be kewl at first, everyone who used them would also have to invest in alternate storage cases - who will produce them and profit first? I say no.
