I was at a loss as to what coin to post on this thread the other day, but last night's detector hunt provided me some adequate material. I posted a thread about it but here it is again. It came out of the dirt last night. Still haven't fully cleaned it yet. It's an 1850. The date is a bit softly struck but I can tell it had VF-EF detail when it was lost.




Most detector finds have "character". Enough to compensate for the fact that they may be a little crusty or whatever. Being the first person to hold a coin in 150-odd years is quite a rush- the next best thing to time travel, as far as I'm concerned! The monetary value (or lack thereof) of such finds is mostly irrelevant- a secondary concern, anyway.
