There is unrest in the Sudetenland, Hitler demands the right of self determination for the Germans of the area. The crises stemming from this compells the British Premier, Neville Chamberlain, to travel to Munich and visit Hitler; later they meet again in Goedesberg for a discussion. Hitler demands the release of the Sudeten territory to the Reich. The Czechoslovakian government refuses. Hitler calls his demand the last territorial request he will ever make based on the ‘injustice’ of the Versailles Treaty. Mussolini enters the picture by asking for a meeting in Munich of the leaders of Germany, Italy, Great Britain, and France. They agree on the cession of the Sudetenland and determine the remainder of Czechoslovakia. Poland and Hungary also lodge claims against Czechoslovakia which are granted by the four. German troops march into the Sudetenland. Hitler is the victor. The safety of the small countries is at its lowest ebb. Later Hitler shall say, “Our enemies are small worms. I saw them in Munich.” Munich has since become the symbol for the free western world what appeasement of dictators will lead to. Inscription on Reverse, “The Munich agreements in the Führerhaus, September 29, 1938.”

I forgot to mention that a Goetz collector buddy of mine who has collected Goetz for the past twenty years told me the other day that this was only the second one of these medallions he has seen since he began collecting....I found it in a private collection in Germany.

I have to wonder what Goetz thought of the Czech annexation. He's so carefully neutral, you have to wonder if the Gestapo wasn't looking over his shoulder.
You also bring out a point never mentioned in our history books -- that Poland and Hungary snatched up slices of Czechoslovakia as well.
