1985 Topps Mini Schmidts

Does anybody know where the graded Schmidts reside? Six have been graded (3 8s and 3 9s). Two are listed on the registry (mikeschmidt, of course, and Dax.). Any ideas?

Thanks - Gatorbait

I'm pretty sure that Brian Drent still has some. (Hope I'm not getting him confused - it is the dealer that has had quite a large number of PSA and GAI graded 1985 Minis over the past few years). Also - send me an e-mail tonight if you want a scan of the 1972 PR Sticker Schmidt graded GAI 7.5 NM+. Finally set up in CT for the summer....

I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.
  • I followed Marc's lead and already have the card - it's sweet. Marc not only has an unbelievable Schmidt collection, but he's been a great help with the expansion of my collection. Thanks again. I've also attached a picture of another Schmidt card that I can't find on the registry. It is a Leaf card with an '87 copyright on it. I've seen it referred to as a "Fold Out," which also appears on the back. It is not in the Standard Catalog (I don't think). Does anybody have any info? imageimage

The card looks just like the 1988 Donruss Popups (2-1/2 by 3-1/2). You are right that there are no popups listed in the Standard Catalog for Leaf, but it is possible that the copyright line for the Donruss Popups said Leaf (same company). I am surprised about the 1987 copyright though since the 1987 Donruss Popups were 2-1/2 by 5. I do not have any of the Donruss Popups with me at the moment, so I cannot check the copyright line for you. Maybe somebody else can.

    Cool Schmidt mini! Congrats! image

It is a Donruss Pop-Up card. I have one of them graded - but am not sure which one off the top of my head (you would have to check the Population Report to see...). Is it oversize? Donruss made two sets of Pop-Ups with Schmidt on them, I think - one was normal size and inserted with the All-Star cards (1988?), and then there was a 1986. Maybe I'm getting confused - since I'm not anywhere near my collection. But that is what the card is - I am probably going to send one of the tall ones in with my next Schmidt tallboy oddball submission later this summer (some Tastykake photos, Police cards, random discs, etc.)

P.S. the really tall one is hard to find in decent shape because of the weird size and the black borders.

  • I went back to the Catalog and it is an '88 Donruss Pop-up. Only 3 graded on the pop report (a 6, 7 and 8). Thanks for the info. By the way, how do you like that timing? Request for relatively rare card source on the 10th, card is purchased and arrives on the 17th. Not bad.
