GOETZ: Opus 198 How Long Yet?

K-198 HOW LONG YET? (Wie lange noch?), 1917, Cast Iron, 85.1mm, 147.50g.

Lampooning the belief that the Entente cannot fight much longer. On the obverse the Russian giant is dying, burying under him his allies, France, Serbia, Rumania, and Belgium. England is depicted as a skeleton with hourglass taking the pulse of the fallen Russian. On the reverse an English soldier is seen sitting on the floor, a serving tray before him carrying the Neutral Powers in the form of porcelain figurines. The American flag is splitting open, the statue of Pallas Athene, symbolizing Greece, lies broken on the ground between the soldier’s feet. Inscription on the reverse, “Well roared, lion, 1917.”
