BIN For Sports Card...

When I DVDs on ebay, I mostly search for BIN with great prices because if
you let an auction run, it usualy runs past the price one would pay if you just
went to the local Target, Walmart, etc.

However, with baseball cards, I purchase my cards by sniping. The thought
of using a BIN to purchase a card, for me, is almost unheard. Most of the time,
seller's list ridicously high BIN prices. It makes you wonder why they use the
BIN in the first place. How often are your purchases of spords cards through
the BIN method?

I ask this because I just purchased a card with a SMR of $75 with a BIN price
of $35.00. I checked out the card and it looked legit and the seller had 2370
feedback of 99.9%. We'll see how this goes.

Recently I have used the BIN a little more. Some sellers might list a card with the Buy it Now at SMR because they do not really follow the market for that set and some great bargains can be found.

Aro13 is right. I recently was very fortunate to find a seller with a BIN on a $45 card selling at SMR. It is a 1 of 3 PSA 9 Archie Clark Icee Bear that I would never have otherwise afforded.

I think BIN's are wonderful if you run across an item that you simply must have, the price is reasonable (yes...maybe even a tiny bit high) and you do not want to take the chance on missing it.
Even sniping cannot guarantee a victory; BIN is a sure-thing.

I have to admit, I almost never, buy anything BIN, sports card related that is. Sometimes if there is some awesome deal then yes, I'll do it, but it's very rare and usually it's on boxes or lots, not single cards.

I have however listed many items with a BIN and I would say that 40% of my auctions end early using the BIN. Sometimes I throw in the gratuitous bonus for using BIN in the hopes Ebay stays away. I've had really good luck with it. I usually do the BIN at the high end of what others are selling for with the reserve at or near the low end. ie. $500 card High book, selling 225-350 on ebay. Reserve will be $250 with BIN at $375 for example.

With my Heritage SP's I listed, most booked $5-$8, starting bid was 1.00 with BIN at $3-$5. I sold 90%+ of them via BIN especially when I gave a good shipping deal for a bunch of them.

I think it's all in how you price it. I don't use BIN on anything that doesn't have a reserve, that's just a waste of a nickel! image

Even on a $1000 card with a bin of $5 some schlep will come along and bid 99 cents and take away your bin. Keep your nickel and buy some gum. image
  • As a seller I try to create reasonable BIN's. I'd say about 1/3 of all my auctions end this way. Some sellers seem to price their BIN's ridiculously high. Still for a $0.05 BIN, it's probably worth it, even at an outrageous amount for that "chance".

I just nailed a BIN 2 days ago. Very happy with it. I just wish I could find more BINs that are reasonable

I have had good luck with BIN. I have picked up some cards I really wanted with reasonable prices without having to go through the bidding process. I was happy, the seller was happy=definition of a good deal. I don't see too many out there but you can find them.
