Well Hi all,
Havent posted in a while so I thought I would give a short blurb on our local show last weekend (Combined with our local club, and the NCNA {state organization})
Turn out was a little light, could be due to the great weather we had, and everyone went to the beach, or HIGH gas prices.
Darkside material was not the majority of what could be found at the show, although I did pick up some nice stuff from Estonia, Switzerland, Canada, among others. I did fill some holes
for my Germany, Iceland, and France sets . There was very little quality British stuff, but I did find one nice piece I will post about later on. I did sell quite a bit of liteside stuff
I Think the highligh for me was sitting down with a dealer I know and talking about ancients, which I know very little about. The dealer is a member of our local club here, who deals on the web at
'forumancientcoins.com' this was his first show. Anyway I delved into ancients and purchased a Silver Tetradrachm 102-101 BC.
SILVER TETRADRACHM, c 102-101 BC, 30.7mm, 14.44g, Main Features are, Obverse: Helmeted head of Athena, Parthenos right. Reverse: Owl standing righ, amphora on it's side.
Pictures came out a little gold in color, not true of the coin.
NOW FOR THE GIVEAWAY......... 1975 Canada Cased Dollar (Calgary) with original presentation box, just post to enter......

someday but for now I'm I'm sticking with the medievals.

Thanks

Nice owl - so far I've stayed away from ancients, but that one is very tempting.

Edit to add: I gotta get back into the habit of attending NCNA. In fact, my wife and I were just discussing the possibility of going to Raleigh this weekend to visit my sister. (Prob'ly ain't gonna happen, but we need to get back up there- it's been too long.)
Please don't enter me, I'd rather see a newbie win!

<< <i>Congrats on the Owl, Glenn- I've wanted an owl (of the older style) for a long time, but never have gotten around to buying one. I've never even had a New-Style Owl tetra like yours, either. In fact, the only tetradrachm I can recall owning was a posthumous Alexander the Great.

TTT, I will make the draw sometime Monday after work. I do like the older syle owl as well, but it was better than twice the cost of this one, so I though I would wait a while. I think the Raleigh Coin club has their show in June at the fairgrounds....
Thanks,
Shep
