Got grades today

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,613 ✭✭✭✭✭
Sent a group off to NGC. Am expecting a second submission next week. A mix bag of things:

GB 1911 3p bodybagged 'Polish'. No way, coin is proof.
GB 1887 Double Florin bodybagged 'stained' It seems NGC is drumming up business for NCS. 'Stained'??? what the heck is that???

GB 1889 1/2 Crown MS62
GB 1911 1/2 Crown PF64
GB 1887 3p MS63 bought as a Proof.
GB 1758 Shilling XF40
Eng. Henry V Groat S-1764 F15, bought as VF from HJB. NGC can be tough on some hammered coins.

GB 1799 1/2d MS64 RB
GB 1799 1/2d MS64 RB ( bought from Colin Cooke)
Australia 1927 Florin "Parliament House' KM-31 MS63 Nice toning, I thought '64'.
E. Africa 1936KN 5c MS65 RD cheapo coin, just wondered the grade

Prussia 1912A 3M PF64 Cameo. ex-lordmarcovan

I'm kinda bummed with the BBs and the 1887 3d going MS, not PF.

  • Sympathy for the BB's

I like the sound of the 1911 half crown PF64 though. Are these keepers or sellers?

    Dr. J,
The hammered coin is for my collection. The others are sellers.

I too am sorry to hear about the BBs. Was the 1887 MS a 3d or a shilling? I was a wee bit confused there.

I know the 1758 shilling is the most common of the George II old head dates... do you feel it was graded correctly Ajaan? I ask because this series seems to be graded rather tightly... I like this series and look for high circ examples.

I am sorry about the harsh treatment from NGC. It would be interesting to see what PCGS would think about a few of these.

I'm curious to see the 87 3d myself. If its proof, I'm surprised they didnt go the maundy route.

1887 maundys were struck using the young head obverse only.
