That's what we are talking about!!! Great coins - Good for us to deversify on the pictures, there are zillions of countries with nifty coins for us to look at, thanks Laurent.

Thanks shep! For a while there I was caught up in trying to compete with the European collectors-who was I kidding?

Now when I see a really nice piece, I'll gladly go after it, but the real joy for me is back to the unique diversity of world coins, all world coins. Large countries, small countries, countries like Katanga-just two coins issued, UNC for $3.00 the pair on E-Bay last week-not fantastic but certainly unique in their minting and I was very pleased with them.

The one mun from Kaesong is BEAUTIFUL. Fabulous condition.

The early Azores coins are most underappreciated ... probably because 99% of the US collecting population doesn't know where they are, much less that they ever had their own coinage. image

I love those turtle boat coins!! image

  • Great pics , Laurent!! You catched even very small details to show us the beauty of these coins! Especially I like Korean 1836 bronze coin --real "Korean Beauty" with neat blue inclusion in the central square hole image.. and Guatemala's silver--great details on it!!!

And sure that Turtle boat already for a long time in my wants!!!!! I have another one --on 5 won denomination Turtle Boat, but yours are much more COOL!!!

    Great coins!

Judging from the leftover coloration and the string marks in the hole, I'd say that the Korean one mun piece was once part of a charm.
  • <<<I'd say that the Korean one mun piece was once part of a charm. >>> ---yes I mean exactly the same, Sumnom image and I really like Laurent's way of displaing that coin, now seriously!!

I like the form of the character "kae." It has that little whisp coming off the left element. It seems that other issues from Kaesong do not have this.

This is a great post for reminding me about why collecting for my 'lots of coins from lots of countries' (as my collection is now called) is so much fun! Hey there Jester--nice to see your little light on!

The Guatemala and Azores peices are nice. I have never seen the Azores coin before but I have 5 centavos peice from Guatemala. i really like the tree design. In fact, that could be another collecting theme: trees!
