A Crown, by HRH Victoria

For the late night crowd, here's the centerpiece to my sometimes trying attempt at a complete Victorian type set.

The macro imaging technique using the angled glass finally allowed me to capture the subtlety of colour range on this specimen. The reverse still needs improved lighting to capture the "swirl" of lustre, so I shall persevere.

Cheers, Mac.

  • That is the most amazing YH Victorian Crown I have ever seen with that attractive blue/rainbow toning. Is it a proof or circulatin strike? image

    Thanks all.

Van, this coin is a business strike. It's just a touch weak on the top of the crown and the date. A Proof-of-Record (if one existed) would likely fetch far in excess of $50,000. Maybe Andy knows if one is hiding out there somewhere, but I can 100% guarantee this mouse would never have it......unless it's spelled POWERBALL!! image

I'll always marvel at how a coin like this stayed so well preserved, but basically they had "caretakers" from the beginning.

The Brits also had some fabulous papers/containers which many of these toned pieces were stored in during the years.....kinda like an early Wayte Raymond.

Anyway, glad everyone liked it......I know I'll always cherish the Rosy Vic. Cheers, Mac
