0 for 15. Which is to be expected. I hope I do not put up an 0fer in Robert Edwards Auctions.

i'm hearing a lot of that.......everybody plans on winning a reasonable lot or two from Lifson image

same mailing list, added e-bay bidding, fewer lots, rarer stuff..........must be that new math image

1 for 3 last nite.I was pretty happy, got it for an OK price, no steal, but as well or better than I would've done on ebay for the same cards.
    0 for 4 tonite, and I'm done.
Vargha, any luck on the item we discussed?

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

murcerfan - Yes, good point. I guess I was putting too much emphasis on their estimated values which on some lots seem awfully low.
  • VarghaVargha Posts: 2,392 ✭✭
Nope, but I helped bump up the high bid about $2K more.

    Albie-
I'd be happy to win a whole bunch of those RE lots for the estimate. Think its going way over- those might've worked 18 months ago, but not now. We shall see.

I offered Rob his high estimate for the whole catalog..........figured I could call Davalillo for a loan if he accepted image

    just kidding Jimbo.

....but really....a solid t208 for 600 bucks ? sign me up!

    Albie,
good luck with your bidsanyways, I too have high hopes....can't hurt to try.
  • I'm done with this auction. I won lot #906, the Sosa 1999 autographed game used Louisville Slugger use to hit HR's 55 through 59, and that's all I plan on spending this time around. There's a game used and autographed 1950's Musial bat that's pretty sweet, but I can acquire one of those privately.
  • 1 for 12 I won "The Totalizer" basketball arcade game.

T205's made Jerry's college fund a bit bigger! He can send his kids to Harvard now!

I'm high bid on the 69 set, but I dont know if my top bid will get it.
  • As of right now I am 1 for 2 but I am watching about 5-6 lots that end tonight and will try and pull the trigger on at least 2 of them....

Didn't bid on Mastro or R.E.A. I'll take the ebay bargains tonight instead.

Looks like NADA this time around. I was tracking some of the packs and the 1969 sets but they all are well outside what I think they're worth. I emailed Grady to ask for spot checks on a handful of low pop commons and never heard back...their loss. I won't gamble on their sets hoping the raw portion is as nice as the cherry picked graded examples.

Bob - Good luck on winning the 1969 set. I hope it's got some nice low pops in there.

Edited to add - I know where I'm going to consign my next high end item. Even with the 15% juice out of the consigner's end you can't beat the prices realized. They must have Bill Gates and the Walton family as frequent bidders.

    gemint,
The set hinges on the raw portion and the 4 graded whites. The Perry WL in 9 in my opinion is worth $1500. The McCovey WL in 8 has been sold now 3 times for over $2000 each time. The Houk WL 8 is also big. The Mantle WL 7 is about $1400-$1500. I estimated the graded cards at $just over 9K. So if any of the other whites are worth anything and the set is gradeable, I'm into it for $5k.
  • Gemmint - I agree. Once you get John Boy and that entire Walton clan bidding, the sky is the limit.

If there were very few winners on this board and very view on the Network 54 board, then who paid up for all the stuff?

You know the story . . . I went to bed at 10:30 PST with one high bid and woke up this morning with none. I had bids on the 1951 Topps Connie Mack All Stars as well as the one that had all of the 1951 Topps sets, including teams, Connie Mack All Stars and current All Stars.
  • murcerfanmurcerfan Posts: 2,329 ✭✭
    DV,
awesome cards, but I think both those lots went for more than they are worth.
many of the key cards (except Rizzuto) had problems.
that said, those current all-stars just don't seem to come around much anymore.

I woke up surprised to find my stake in the wilson franks set was never bid on.
I guess my partner was too busy getting lap dances, blew all his $$ playing black 17 on the roulette or got cold feet !

    edited to add:
the final price on that lot was actually a good deal IMO, guess having 13 of 20 cards in 8oc or 9oc scared the big fish out into deeper water.
    1954 where are you ?
  • dstudebadstudeba Posts: 215 ✭✭
I agree murcer, who got it?

Those 8oc and 9oc cards are horrible. But to protect my investment in Wilson Franks I will pay 110% SMR for them.

    Generous to a fault image

He called from a strip club in New Orleans at 1,30 am to say he was gonna take the next bid.
    looks like another alien abduction.
  • dstudebadstudeba Posts: 215 ✭✭
I hope he got them. If he didn't why did he tempt fate by playing with distractions.............?

    OK stupid question.

Then again, the distractions might not have been very good if he was calling you from a strip club! image

I guess I undervalued the white letters. If they pull in those kind of prices, you have little risk. I'm guessing you won the set since it ended with no after hour bids. Congrats and be sure to let us know what you think of the set when you receive it. I won a 1970 set in the last Mastro auction that was decent but a little weaker than I had hoped.
