What I found in a roll of Jeff nickels today

anablepanablep Posts: 5,092 ✭✭✭✭✭
Once a week I go to the bank and get about $20 in nickels and any half dollar rolls they may have. Usually I find one or 2 silver 1/2 dollars and 5-10 pre 1960 nickels I set aside.
Today I opened one roll of nickels and hit the jackpot. Don't know how this happened but I got:
about 7 1960-1970 nickels
2 1939 nickels
1 1943 S silver nickel
about 15 other pre-1960 nickels
AND 15 buffalo nickels!!
8 have dates and the rest do not.
How about that! I almost screamed with delight upon opening the roll.
I don't think I'll ever have a find quite like that again. THe roll had an accound # on it and 2 other rolls had the same # on them, but yielded 1-2 pre-1960 nickels and the rest 1964-2003.
Too cool!image

Check the 39's for doubling on the lettering on the reverse.

Is there any increase in value if the letters are doubled on the reverse?
    Thanks for the heads up!

There definately is. A 1939 nickel with "doubled monticello" Is worth about 25 times it normally is (in circulated condition)

Now that's cool! It's great that there are still finds to be made from bank rolls. I haven't done that in a while, but I should. image

No key dates/MM. Mostly 1930's, some 1920's. The dates from the 20's are very worn and partial. One 1924, 1921 (I think), 1927 and a couple others. Still, an unexpected find.

I'm going back to the bank tomorrow if its open to get more rolls... image
