Recently aquired this 1960-P MS66 Franklin. It's a Pop 12/0 coin...my first "None Finer". Anyway, here's two images of the coin. One is from the auction house and the other is my scan. Can you guess which one is the REAL Ben Franklin?

<< <i>Which auction company? >>
ANR "American Numismatic Rarities.
<< <i>I would say that the left one is more natural colorwise. The right one is more enhanced technicolor. Frankie's got a bald spot and a skin condition on his scalp. >>
Ditto, and you should biopsy that scalp lesion

I think this peculiarity lends a distinguishing feature to ole Ben.
It's color gets enhanced as well.
<< <i>Congratulations on a great find fellow pooch lubber! >>
Thanks Frank.
<< <i>Thats why I like pics that show some white from a slab >>
Agreed. However, for this thread I thought it best not to show the slab. That would take the fun out of guessing which one is the REAL Ben.

<< <i>What causes that "textile" or fabric pattern on 1960-P Franklins >>
Great question. I was wondering the same. It was one of the features of this coin that really caught my eye. Maybe one of the experts can shed some light.

My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the pattern is the result of the way the mint set paper came into contact with (part of) the coin's surface.
this is a question many Frankie collectors wonder...
I have owned 4 of these type of textile toners, 2 of them I pulled from the cello package......
I like them...
Yours is awesome...

Guess it's time to reveal the "TRUE" coin. When I first saw the coin in the resent ANR auction I was taken by the textile like texture and the color. But, when the coin arrived I almost wet my pants. It was sooooooo much better than the auction house image. I know some will not believe this but, the coin on the left is from the auction house and is quite pale compared to the actual coin. The coin on the right is my scan and it looks just like what you see, no kidding...it really does. I did nothing to tweek the color just scanned the coin on a very slight angle. The luster just booms off ole Ben.
<< <i>that's one helluva coin! >>
Coming from you Frank, that makes me feel good about the purchase. Thank you my friend.

Me too...but I'd been happy either way.
I was delighted to see an old friend there: the 52-D NGC MS66 wondercoin that I made many years ago!
