It would be great to see a picture and hear where it came from.
It is on the way back from PCGS. MAS3387 will post a picture when it arrives back in Maryland.

<< <i>Come on! Let's see a real picture of this "Jewel". Can you get us a close up of both sides, especially the portrait side. i would personally be very surprised if it had ms69 surfaces as they just don;t come that nice. >>
thanks for the congrats!!! Or is it?
I can't wait to see what a Clad 69 looks like!
I live in a world of Ikes where I can only DREAM of my making my first Clad in 67!

Mark: To some extent, I do believe PCGS is beginning to "understand the look" of the 50 different MS state quarters. At least, I would like to think so in my interpretation of how the grades are being assigned. For example, I know of the VT(p) look you are referring to. Drop dead gorgeous blazing luster - the kind of luster MS69's are made. It is not by accident that VT(p) has a dozen of so MS69's already graded. By contrast, the RI(p) from the same year generally looks nothing like a VT(p). I recently handed both RI(p) MS69 coins which were recently slabbed at PCGS. They had great luster "FOR A RI(p)" and were lacking the spots so associated with RI(p) coinage. But, did the coins have the luster of a killer VT(p) - of course not - they simply don't come that way. And, has PCGS figured that out already and now "understands" RI coinage- again, I would like to think that they do. They have now slabbed over 75,000 state quarters I believe.
But, I do appreciate Mark's skepticism with respect to the DEL(p) as it is truly a remarkable grade on that state . If MAS desires to ship me the coin, I will personally meet Mark (datentype) at PCGS and be happy to render my personal opinion on the quality of this DEL coin vis a vis all the other DEL coins I have personally handled (a very large % of the MS67 and MS68 coins ever graded by PCGS). Or, perhaps he can bring it to Long Beach as well.

Mark: Sure - give me no credit for the (3) 01(p) nickels in 68FS I slabbed the other day

I too am interested in the DE(p) purely from a historical perspective. Hopefully, we will both get to see it.

Craig: Before the "classic" collectors have a heart attack - consider this - a "cheap" silver quarter in MS68 is worth what - say $6,000 - right? A "cheap" MS68 state quarter is worth $25. Enough said

<< <i>mas3387, how about it? can we get a blown up scan of each side - especially the portrait or possibly send it to Mitch and i could meet with him as prevoiusly offered? The reason this has my interest, is more from a historical perspective and to appreciate it if it is a true ms69 or even ms68++++. it is truely a coin that I would look upon with great awe and i would put it up with the very top of the tops of modern coins. I would compare this to: a bronze Lincoln in 8, Lincoln in 9 from 1983-1991, pre 99' Roosie in 9FB, pre 01' Jefferson in 8FS, 71-s Silver IKE in MS68, almost any Clad IKE in 7 or 72-s-74-s Silver IKE in 9. There are probably others to add to the list and it's not necessarily a 1:1 comparison but in the same league. note many of these have not even been popped yet. >>
Unfortunately this is the best I can do for a picture at this time, the coin has been safely put away. This coin has blazing luster, amazing strike sharp, and mark free. This the absolute best 1999 state quarter I have seen to date and I've made many 99's in 68 and this one has them beat by a long shoot. As for shipping it out to you , I don't think that will happen. I didn't think things would go this way, all the negativity. I guess when my next pop 1 returns from PCGS I'll have to keep the news to myself and the buyer.
<< <i>such negativity , did i miss something ? he made ms 69 & then what happened !! this is a 10 k coin, i see peep here that make 69's whats the prob- did mas do something wrong ,why the doubt from peep that only deal w/ pcgs & a 69 isnt so contriversal I realize its a DE.but why not in 69 it was bound to happen why not now & why not mas3387 ?? congrats again !! it couldnt happen to better peep !! buying all them sealed boxes of 3 over the last 4- 5 years it was bound to happen !!!!!!! my opinion !! we all have one !!!!!! if i get 1 from 99 i dont think you will see it here !!! the search never ends !! good luck on the next .. >>
My exact words!! Thank you!! I'm sure if someone else made this coin they wouldn't be running back to PCGS for a Re-grade. Keep up the search for the next one of a kind!!
MAS, I saw you registered a set with this coin, are you now saying it is sold?
<< <i>I put it at around $6-$7K if it's ms69 quality >>
Is that because it's not yours? I don't know how you can put a value on such a modern rarity. This is a one of kind coin for now and is the best of the best so far in the state quarter series. I've had several offers on the coin which well exceed your quote, and yes the coin was presented to the interested party. I am new to posting here on the fourm and didn't think this would turn into a coin bashing. I would say this will be my last time I post a thread here and will not reply to any others added to this one. I want to thank all of you who replied kindly.
<< <i>I wondered when someone was going to mention this. Seems if you are not a member of the "registry forum club", you cannot have nice coins without getting approval from the board dealers.

Thanks for being on my side here. I listed the coin with the registry so i may post a picture here for all to see. I thought it looked lonely there all by its self so I filled in the 49 other empty spots. I am currently talking with a client who has a strong intrest in this coin. But it feels good to be the maker and the owner of the ultimate state quarter thus far.
One last thing: I do not want to have this missconstrued - it's great coin and I'm glad that it was shared. However, there are no buyers for a coin like that at above $6-7 and you know it. The several offer thing is fake. there could possibly be one guy with deep pockets that I know of but not several, so forget that. There are not more than a couple of people that will step to the plate at a level above $5-6K (I should know), so I thought i was being generous. i hope you can get more for it or decide to keep it. one last time: great job and if it's truely ms69 quality, i bow my head as that coin is truely a significant peice of hostory and is definitely the "jewel" of the series!
By the way, nobody was talking about a regrade, that's just a midpoint for some people to meet.
<< <i>I would just like to add that this has never been a forumn of kindness in my opinion. It's more of a kick it around boys club than anything else with a bunch of know it alls putting in there opinion so that they in turn can be bashed. no biggie.

As far as your opinion goes regarding the several offers believe what you want to believe. I don't make things up and there is no need to lie. Remember, you are not the only big fish out there making and selling these coins. There are many people who are purchasing high grade state quarters that you "DO NOT KNOW".
mas..... truer words were never spoken !!
