I havn't checked for any errors yet, what should I be looking for? Anything I should know about? This will make a good start to a Circulated Kennedy half Set

The 74-D, look for a double date. It's most clear on the right side letters of "trust". That's the way I started my Kennedy sets. Ray

Check the 66 for a doubled die obverse. There are a couple of varieties. Some are visible to the naked eye.

There are numerous doubled die versions of quite a few of those other years. You need to get yourself "The Kennedy Half Dollar Book" by James Wiles. It contains a wealth of info....Ken

What kind of grades are you seeing generally. No doubt the older ones tend to
be VF/XF and the more recent ones are dinged up lustrous AU's. Is there much
deviation from this?

Checked the dates noted here and nothing, I'm going to do a general overall search for Die Clashes and the sort and then prep them for recycle back to the bank

Should I just spend them?

I spend my "spares" when I'm done looking at them. I love the looks on some of the pepole's faces when they get "foreign" coins. Some of the kids at gas stations, etc have never seen a half dollar before. I also get a roll or two of the new dollar coins and spend them as well. I usually get smiles or strange looks from the clerks when using there "golden" dollars. This way, we will keep them in circulation and possibly start someone collecting these strange coins and they will do research. Perhaps, in the next year, we may be conversing with thses same people on these boards. Just my fifty cents. By the way, I have also picked out numerous Frankies and Walkers from these Kennedy rolls too! Good luck in your search! Ray

MrPaseo, there are TONS of varieties to look for, including the NO FG (66,72-D,82-P,83-P), rotated reverses, doubled dies (many dates), and a cud on the 76 coins. Below are my 71-D DDO, and my 74-D DDO. Sorry for the large pics. Happy hunting.

Pretty typical results. A lone '64 to keep you interested, a whole pile from the 70's, and a couple from the 90's. Bet those from the 90's look like they were run over by a truck - somehow they end up worse than the 70's.

Alot of them went into casino slot machines..Got beat up and all.. I would say over 80% of any date in the 1990s I get from any bank roll will be that way.

Well, I went through most of them, I still have the 1976 to go through....I guess thats not most of them then huh...well, I went through msot of the dates I ended up with:

18 for our 1st Kennedy Half Set

5 with some nice HUB Doubleing (Or DDR stuff but I'm not holding my breath) the way I see it, these will be great examples of HUB D for newbies

Have gone through (6) 1000coin bags of kennedys from my local bank over the past few months looking for errors and varieties. Found so far:
3-1974D DDO-as seen in the redbook
2 rolls of silver(40 coins)
3 with rim cuds 2 minor and 1 large
4 minor DDO -the ones I kept
1 laminated reverse(minor)
2 clashed dies-1 minor obverse only and (1) major obverse and reverse
you can make out 3/4 of kenedys profile including the eye and the "W" of WE on the reverse
and make out quite a bit of the eagle around kennedys head on obverse.
Dates most seen in my searches:
1971
1972
1776-1976
1995
1996
With 1973 and 1974 following close behind
Most of the 1990's do look terrible,with the "P" usually the worst
Hope to get back to the hunt shortly.
