They are 1951p Franklins in FBL, and they just might be "Bugs Bunny" variety.

If you want a "Bugs Bunny" Franklin, you should be looking at 1955 not 1951.

They also exist for a couple other years besides 1955.

    Steve:

Bugs can be found in 1949, 1951, and 1954 also; I just bought one on ebay for 401.00, in an NGC holder, yet! This '51 came in the mail on Sat. and it is a pure-white beauty with a massive strike for the date. I have spent 35 years looking for one this good, and now I have to hope it will crossover. This is a big deal for me as I NEVER buy NGC unless I have an alterior motive! (did I spell that right??) This will be my 1st attempt at a crossover...wish me luck!

FYI: Bugs is quite rare in these years; there is a pure white 1954 in a PCGS 66FBL holder out there somewhere. I saw it in a Teletrade auction last year, but it wasn't listed as such because most people think of only 1955's.

Ed - Flykite - knows his Frankies folks. Yes there are 51, 54, and 55 Franklins. I wasn't aware that there were 49 Franklins with the Bugs Bunny die clash, but since it's just that, a die clash, it's not surprising.

I believe I sold one to a board member last year at -0- premium, although it was a neat variety. So, perhaps there are really 2 coins out there image

I'll say this as far as their rarity - it's a die clash and if you're into those things, then great. There are rare off center coins, clipped coins, various and sundry die clashes in all series. To me, they're a "nice to have" as opposed to a must have in the Franklin series. I think a lot of collectors look at it this way.

    Frank:

I agree, its a niche thing, like the 49-S "proofs" and the 58-59 die varieties, although they should be in the
    Registry!!

    Wondercoin:

Congrats on the '54! They are mega-rare. Now, if you (or anyone) could find a 1958P in mint state in a
65FBL or higher, that (to me) is the ultimate Franklin. I don't believe they exist as I have been searching for
    30+ years...Ed
  • Ed, I think you forgot to add "type 2" to your description of the possibly non-existant FBL variety of 1958.image

I sold an ANACS MS65 1954 bugs to someone one ebay a couple years ago. Was that you? It was toned.
