How long after you mail your coins do they appear on the PCGS web site?

I mailed mine last Saturday, and there is still no record of PCGS having received them. Is this typical?

Thanks,

Dan

  • Why, so he is!!!

The last time I shipped to PCGS, I sent the package on a Saturday and they posted on Monday. Of course, I only live 75 miles away or so...
  • Well, I was expecting them to receive the package on Tuesday or Wednesday. I figure they might be backed up in their mail room, though.

I've ranged from 3 days posting to 2.5 weeks for registered mail. On one package, after 2 weeks, I resorted to the USPS website to check the tracking. It showed up at PCGS 2 days later.

First, I agree with your concern about "where" your coins are. Second, I want to make a general statement that I disagree with the general whining (by collectors) about turnaround times when it is a question of a couple of days.

    Now the interesting story . . .

I sent two groups in earlier this month. I kept checking to see when they received them, because the thing that was most important to me was that the whereabouts of my coins were known. They finally showed up about a week later, and the dates showing on the PCGS site said "received 3-9-04." I was very glad that my coins had arrived safely. I wrote down the 9th on a note pad, so I would know when to check back to see if my grades were posted. (These were regular submissions).

When I checked, the date the submissions had been received had been changed to 3-11-04 !!!!!!! That was very interesting to me, to say the least. I'm not going to be a brat about it because this is my hobby, and I don't have business need to get them back quickly for resale. A couple of days really doesn't mean a whole lot to me when they are my coins and I don't have any intention of putting them on the market.

Of course I began second guessing the date on my note immediately because I never thought I would have written the date down wrong. I don't have any proof the date was originally the 9th, and I don't have any idea whether they actually received the coins on the 9th or the 11th. It is possible I guess that they actually got them on the 11th, and erroneously wrote the 9th, and then corrected it later.

I think you count from the time the email shows up that says "Thank you for your order". Coins can sit in the mail room and/or submission errors have to be verified/corrected before the email is sent.

Sometimes pcgs checks them in the same day they get them from the post office some times it has taken as long as 3 days.

You can check with the post office and see if pcgs has signed for the package yet if it was insured for over $50 you can do it online for registered, priority or express.

  • The fastest has been five days the longest eight days.
I send each week so the sample is quite large.
The times are not bad considering the distance across the pond.
