And, on the 14th business day they said "let there be grades!"

My grades in parenthesis.

1 21518388 1964 50C Accented Hair USA PR67CA (PR66, was hoping for DCAM)
2 21518389 1964 50C Accented Hair USA PR66CA (PR64, was hoping for DCAM)

Date Received: 03/04/2004
Date Shipped: No Date Specified

The coins:

Line 2:

I figured that both of these had about a 50/50 shot at the DCAM designation. PCGS chose to reward them with an eye appeal grade bump instead. Pretty high on the contrast scale for a cameo, though, so they're still be quite welcome in The Stash. image

Hey Russ, do you ever have dreams where 64 AH Kennedys are dancing around? image

Looks like your to harsh on the grade and to lenient on Cameos.
    Need some adjustment?

No, PCGS is too harsh on the cameo and too lenient on the grade.

  • Definately looks DCAM in the pictures... unless the photos are tweaked... that's some freakin awesome contrast between the mirrors and the frost...

  • Looks like they pretty well know by now that most AH submissions belong to you. You should have Marty send them in. That way...........................................Hell, what was I thinking! Maybe you don't want Marty to send them in!!...image

Those are just flat-out beautiful coins.

Makes me -- a non-fan of Kennedys -- want to own one.
    When in doubt, don't.

They have the mirror depth and clarity that PCGS likes for the DCAM designation, but they're right on the cusp for overall "look" for the designation. That's why I figured them at a 50/50 shot. They're the type of coin that, on any given day, could go with a lower numerical grade and end up in a DCAM holder.

It is very tough to squeeze a deep cameo out of PCGS on these. Over the past year they've only granted it to three coins in any grade. Two of those were me, so I can't complain too much. image

Now what would Marty do in this instance? (besides selling these bad boys to me.)image

Sure looks DCAM to me,would it be worthwhile to crack them out and resubmitt at a later date?

    Grip,

They'll probably make another trip sometime in the future, maybe sandwiched with some garden variety cameos. image No hurry, though, since they're part of The Stash.

This brings it back up to 50 PCGS graded examples. I sold off a boatload a while back with the idea that I'd maintain The Stash at 50 pieces, and rotate out coins as new ones are graded.
