I must be getting a little paranoid...

What do you think about the idea that someone might be "posing" as a YN, when in fact they are not? I have some suspicions about a person on this forum based on their posts, which include conflicting information about them.

I know this is totally dorky, but I used to be an OR investigator and things are not "ringing true" to me. Also, as a mom, I have had extensive experience with younger folk and this one just doesn't sound right. I kind of suspect this individual of using the forum to obtain free material since most of us are totally thrilled to have YNs and will bend over backwords to do what we can to help them, including provide free stuff.

    I am REALLY hoping I am wrong and I could be, which is why I'm not screaming and pointing my finger and saying "YOU'RE THE ONE!!!". If the person really IS a YN, I certainly don't want to alienate them from the forum.

    Interesting - I have received a few PMs on this. A few other folks seem to be seeing the same thing I am. I will be interested to see what happens with this person...

    One person gave me kind of a "bummer" PM. I would like to say out here on the forum that I strongly believe in helping out YNs and that I am not for one single second saying that we shouldn't.

    I an only saying that one single individual (who already knows who they are) is suspicious to me and a few other folks.

    You laugh, but how would you feel if the Accented Hair you sent as a freebie to a YN was in fact being received by a 36 year old guy who was basically ripping you off? Picture him in his undershirt with a can of Schlitz laughing at your gullibility, "I took that Russ character. I'll bet I can get at least $50 for this on Ebay".

    Actually, the last one I sent to a YN was received by a guy in that age range. Of course, the YN is only six years old, so Dad had to get it for him. image

    Jeremy, I hope you don't mind me using you as an example, but in a post tonight about what coins people are the most proud of, he showed us a picture of a gorgeous 1880 1C Proof - RB and said someone had assisted him with the cost. If he wasn't a YN would they have?

    He does give a lot back to the hobby, particularly through his photography, but so do a lot of other people. People definitely give YNs free stuff.
