  • You can't really crop a circle as the picture must be a rectange.

You have to make a selection around the coin by either drawing a circle, tracing by hand, or using the wand tool.

    Then you have 2 options:
    1. Fill in the stuff around the coin with a single color (which you can match to the background of the place you will be posting the image.
    2. Make the outside transparent in the pallete (but I think you have to reduce the colors to 256 to do this).

Thanks for the reply Theop. The elliptical marquee tool lets you crop a circle and delete or color background but I can only save/keep results 1/2 the time. Can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. K

    Here's what I do:

-Crop the coin to the very edges (using a rectangular crop)
-Use the circular marquee to get the whole coin as tightly as possible--COPY
-Open a new image and fill the background color
    -Paste your coin
-Try selecting the coin with the marquee again and do an inverse select, filling in your background, if more than the coin was originally selected
-If you are more advanced with photoshop, you can stretch/skew / change perspective to make a better circle, and a better cut-out of the coin

Use Your elliptical marquee and get it where you want it , and then hit copy, and close the original and dont save any changes, then hit new and the background color you want, the size of the new will automatically be correct, paste, and hit file and save as a JPG,and there will be an option for quality but the default should be fine, Hope this helps, may not be the best way?
