AH is back to keyword spamming

They were reported a few months ago, and had several auctions killed by eBay. They stopped doing it for a while, but now they're back at it. Apparently these people feel above the TOS.

    I've thought about this KeyWord spamming issue and while I think it's shaddy and bogus of those who use it, is there really anyone (left) who is fooled by it? Sure, the auction will get more hits but is anyone who is surfing for PCGS coins and lands on another, such as this ACG Morgan, really going to take the bait and bid?
    I don't know.
    Not defending it- just questioning if the days where it truly benefited the Seller to keyword spam are now gone.

    It probably isn't too effective these days, you're right. But it still is a violation of eBay policy, and these people seem to think they are above having to play fair and by the rules. They also have been shilling their auctions, for which Clayton Spencer's thesourceforu account was suspended for thirty days.

    That is pretty lame. If you believed his auction text, ACG is the #1 grading service. These people will stoop to anything to part collectors from their hard earned money.

    Question is, if he's already had auctions yanked for doing it once, why doesn't Paypay axe this idiot for good?

    I don't know, nothing seems to stick on them. Perhaps the amount of money they pay in fees to eBay has some bearing on it.

    keyword spamming is pretty much a lame issue that ends as a mild irritant. if every seller who used the tactic were suspended...............well, i just don't think it's much to get excited about and eBay more than likely doesn't think so either. so long as the sellers generate income for the sight.............

    i'd have to agree with Braddick on this, it seems like a tactic that's lost it's usefulness as eBay's coin sight has matured.

    After doing a number of searches and repeatedly encountering these types of listings, it definitey becomes irritating. I almost take it as a personal insult to my intelligence. Of course it isn't personal, I'm just overreacting. But I won't bid on auctions that are listed this way, or that I happen across due to this keyword spamming. It's supremely cheesy.

    Well I'm not really fooled by it and even if I were looking for strictly PCGS holdered coins I'd find this one right above it in my search:
    1891-CC MORGAN DOLLAR MS-65 DMPL ANACS NOT PCGS
    So me being the Morgan collector that I am I'm thinking well I'll click on it just to see what this ANACS 91 CC looks like.
    Then right under it the one K6AZ linked: 1891-CC MORGAN DOLLAR MS-65 ACG NOT PCGS
    So out of morbid curiousity I click on it just to see what kind of cleaned overgraded junky 91 CC is for sale because I like looking at ALL 91-CC Morgans right? And I see a frosty white coin so I click on the big picture and I say hmmmm looks like it has some neat peripheral toning and WOW!! guess what? COLLECTORS UNIVERSE PRICE IS $3850 and this pos has a starting bid of $1,295.00 and I can Buy It Now for $1,395.00.
    Man what a deal I can maybe get a rip I think I'll watch this one and maybe bid on it if nobody else does. And look at the hit counter, people are really looking at this one, I beter hurry up & bid.

    That my friend is the point about key word spamming. It gets people to look and the more people that look the more potiental bidders and that means more $$ in AH's pocket. That's how it works.


    Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    Do you know if you type a minus sign in front of a word you DON'T want to appear, it won't pull up any of those auctions? For example, if you put in

    PCGS -ACG

    then when you search, you won't get any of AH's auctions????

    Just add " -ACG " to the end of your search.

    There are currently 284 ACG slabs up for auction...
    There are 9 ACG NOT PCGS auctions.

    Personally I think it's just good marketing.....I don't see the harm in getting people that only enter "PCGS" into their search criteria to browse through their ACG auctions.

    Obviously if those buyers are ONLY looking for PCGS coins, they won't bid. And yet there will be a few that take a gamble and hope they come up with an ACG coin that is actually the grade listed on its holder (small chance, as we all know).

    But there certainly isn't any harm done. It's still the buyer's choice.

    Now shilling is a completely different matter.....

    The problem that some of you seem to be missing is keyword spamming is a violation of eBay's listing policies. This bunch has no respect for any type of rules or regulations, or laws for that matter. Everything they touch is tainted with corruption and fraud. They have absolutely no respect for anyone but themselves, and they have done a good job at burying themselves.

    MOST CONSISTENT GRADING SERVICE BASED ON THE NOVEMBER 17, 2003 ISSUE OF COIN WORLD REGARDING THEIR RECENT SURVEY. SEE PAGES 62 THRU 66. PCGS WAS RATED LAST WITH THE MOST SCATTERED GRADING....


    Anyone have this Coin World (CW) issue laying around to get more details on how objective this survey? Is was probably a paid ad. survey. Havn't seen a CW in years. Are they still turning the other way while the raw BU,CH BU, Gem BU scammers take money hand over fist from newbies while giving them cleaned overgraded crap?image
