Anyone buy from this eBay seller ..... ?

His eBay handle is ernie and after checking his neg/neutral feedback, I have a wierd feeling. If you have obtained coins from him, please let me know if you were satisfied with them, or any other information you think is appropriate to share. I would greatly appreciate your opinions.

Thanks,

Tom

  • Nice selection of scarce coins but overgraded and overpriced.

I have bought from Ernie two times and both experiences were good. Of course the coins I bought were NGC/PCGS certified. Ernie ships quickly and packages the coins very well. I left him a positive feedback after I got the coin and he left positive for me. I have no complaints.

I very rarely buy raw coins off eBay. I have not bought a raw coin off eBay in over a year.

He seems to grade FE's a bit high but the images he post let me decide.

He is a good guy, but generally overgrades his coins.

I believe you'll get your order OK fine, but on the whole he overgrades and hence, overprices.

As others have mentioned, good service, but he typically overgrades, XF is really VF, MS63 is baggy 62, etc.
  • My opinion goes along with this trend. Ernie has some nice coins, but many are problem coins, copper usually with porosity, etc, but he doesn't hide the fact. He provides really good photos so you can pretty much judge the coin yourself. He tends to overgrade and minimize the coins' problems. But he is a fair enough seller and I have never had any problems with him in several dealings.

Pretty amazing, I don't think I have ever seen such agreement on a particular eBay seller before.

If it's ernie booth @ ebcoin then I've dealt with him several times. I've bought slabbed errors and also raw toned Morgans a time or 2 and was always happy. He ships fast and I found him pleasant enought to deal with.
But like with any eBay dealer you have to be cautious about what you buy because I've got some nice stuff from him and have also seen some real junk in his auctions that I wouldn't touch with a 10' pole.
But he won't rip you off & take your $$ & run or anything like that.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

The one thing is on his 1861-O half dollars, which he has many of, he always makes mention that that they are "likely" made by the confederacy, but do not have "the" image die crack. I always look at them as I think they are the coolest.

I've purchased a couple of coins from him via eBay and never had a problem. He ships quickly and his images are pretty good, so you can decide for yourself on the grade/price.
