A DLRC testimony - Total NuBeez might want to read this

Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Davidlawrence.com, other than I am a recent new costumer.

These people are great. After reading several threads about davidlawrence.com (DLRC), I went to the site, regisitered, and composed a want list. Within 15 minutes I received an email that contained a list that scored exactly within my criteria.
I studied the images, then called them up. I was greeted and treated very graciously,.. as if I was their only customer in the world. I explained that there were three coins I was interested in, one having a "make offer" tag on it, and two others that were standars list/ask price. I said "Even though the other two don't have a "make offer" button, are these negotioable?" He replied, "What do you have in mind?". I made my offer on the lot of three coins, and after being on hold for less than 1 minute, he came back and told me that my offer was "Do-able".
To top it off, even though their site says "free shipping on all web orders", they gave me free shipping on the phone order too.
I received the parcel today (i ordered on Tuesday, Mar. 9), and I have to say, they are exactly as described and pictured (all PCGS PR68CAM). They offer a ten day, no questions asked return policy. Will I return any of them? Well, not just no, but HELL NO.

Bottom line,... they're good folk, they live up to their word, and I will be deal with them again.

I buy from them all the time. My standards are very high, so I return about 25% but that's less than others. Super customer service.

let me elaborate. when selling them average coins, did they end up being 3-stars, 4-stars or 5-stars on their pricelist? my bet is 4-5 stars.

you see, dlrc NEVER buys (or sells) 3-star "average" coins. even when they TELL you the coins they're buying from you are just "average"

Have had very good experience buying from the but if you're thinking about selling to them understand that they are a retail business in business to make money. Unless you paid super prices for the coins you're trying to sell them when you purchased them and/or they have realized some market appreciate since you purchased them don't expect to make a profit or even sell them to a retail dealer at your cost.

If you buy a coin retail there may be a 20% ~ 40% profit in that price (just throwing out some numbers). If you turn right around to sell those coins to a retail dealer you're automatically going to forfeit the profit you paid to the retail dealer you purchased them from. To break even the retail price for those same coins has to appreciate 20% ~ 40%. If you're expecting to sell them to a retail dealer and realize a 10% profit the coins have to appreciate 30% ~ 50%.

This is a simplified scenerio but it's something that collectors need to consider when determining what a fair offer is from a dealer when sell them your coins.

  • DLRC is an excellent source for buying coins..... But if you are looking for high end coins I would suggest that you had better know how to grade for yourself, and not trust their "star" system that they use for rating their coins because it can be inaccurate in my opinion.....

That being said I have bought several coins from DLRC and I always deal with one individual that knows I am a stickler for problem free, and high end coins for the assigned grade, and on the average I have only had to return approximately 10% of the coins I have purchased....... I have also sold a few coins to them which are usually my rejects, are duplicates, and they have always given me a fair price....

I've bought from them a couple of times and have been very happy with their service. I would probably buy more from them if Virginia had a sales tax exclusion on coins, but we don't have any, and that 4.5% on top of their high end prices makes it difficult.

  • I have nothing but the highest praise for them and their lay-a-way program. All of my dealings with them have been top-notch! (I've never tried to sell to them.)

  • Glad you had a good experiance.... a PCGS PR68CAM should be a no-brainer with any company..... just be careful if/when you decide to go down to the 60-64 grades.....

I've acquired many nice type coins from DLRC over the years.

I actually like their star system -- I think it is a useful added piece of information, but they are essentially dividing their inventory into 2 classes (since almost nothing is rated below 4 stars). Anything DLRC calls 5 stars is likely to be very solid or premium quality within the grade. 4 star coins are average. I stick to the five star coins, and have only occasionally disagreed with the designation.
