Grading Submissions Through Dealers

Since we are talking about grades today, and since I've never submitted before, is it correct to say it would be cheaper to submit through a dealer rather than direct to PCGS?

And if so, how much would it be to go through a dealer?

As usual, thanks for any information you have.

Depends on the dealer. Some will ship them for free with other coins some will charge full shipping.
Most will charge the non dealer grading price and use the difference as their profit for doing it.

You also have to trust the dealer. I had a bad experience several years ago using a dealer when the coin came back it was not the same coin I gave him to send.
  • Placid, I assume you reported the switch to PCGS. What did PCGS do/say about it??

No I didn't bother as I had no way to prove it was not the same coin.
This was about 1989. I just said to the dealer it dosen't even look like the same coin. He said pcgs must have dipped it.
