So, what do you guys think? Is the toning natural or artificial? BTW, the question is not whether it's "market acceptable".

Natural proof set toning can give off those colors so I think if it looks good in person I would call it NT. mike

Also I wanted to add a few years ago some were ATing mint and proof coins in the cellophane with a small hole and I would think it is still done now. mike

I believe that is natural toning. I have no idea why I say that, except that sometime, last year, I ran across similar toning, that I knew for certain was completely natural.
So, what's what, Russ?

The answer is: Natural. Pulled from the proof set looking like that. I think there must have been a pin hole in the celo somewhere that allowed something to leach inside. Judging by the condition of the envelope, the set was stored in a very humid/wet environment, so it may have been chemicals from the envelope itself. The quarter was also toned, but both sides look like the reverse of the half.

from experience, this color is caused by proof sets.......so i'm voting NT...although i could be wrong
