Purchased Raw Stone Mountain, Walker, Opinions Please!

I'd like your opinions of these coins I purchased raw off e-bay. Seller offers a return priv, so I figure my down side risk is round trip shipping. I REALLY like the Stone Mountain. The Walker is tougher to judge.

PM me if you ever consider selling that St. Mtn...sweet coin!
  • They both look nice...but buying raw coins from ebay takes more guts than Ive got. Sooner or later you'll get burned.

Judging from the photos both coins look ok. As others have said, though, buying raw coins on eBay is a very high risk venture.

Out of 3 raw coins I purchased on eBay, one turned out out to have altered surfaces (1892 Morgan which I returned), one ATed to cover up overdipping on a BU Morgan, I kept that because it wasn't worth returning and a beautiful toned 1957 Franklin which slabbed as MS65. So, I am one out of 3 and I wouldn't risk purchasing raw on eBay again.

Looks nice Brian! but lt's real hard to tell what the luster is like from a picture like this. I have bought hundreds of raw coins on ebay in the last few years. Some have been junk but others have been gems! mike image

    hey Brian

both issues have lovely, time appreciated designs. the Stone Mountain is such a common coin that the search is really for one that has the "look" over the grade for me. i'm still looking!!image with Walkers, maybe the same thing. i wish i had a dollar for each hour i've spent walkin' the floor looking for nice 1946-47 coins with a full strike. MS64-66 coins abound, but examples with well defined fingers/stems and no friction are tough.

    good luck on yours.

The Stone Mt. looks beautiful. Another coin I`d love to know the grade if you get it slabbed.
