Non-Viewable Registry Sets

Why do they show update icons if you can't view the set. Who cares?

Some of us shield the contents so we don't get held hostage by dealers. It's common practice for incomplete sets.

  • I understand the philosophy, but it still would be nice to see what some
of the fancy sets (that are out of my league) consist of. Oh well.

  • THEN don't post your set, who cares what can't be seen. these sets should be deleted. the dealer excuse is bull, may receive one or two emails a month and what if its a coin you need. they are just wasting space on the registry.

I've had my set registered for about a year and and a half. In that time I have never received an e-mail from anyone looking to sell me a coin. And I still need quite a few coins.

I've had just one inquiry, since registering my sets.
And, that one was from someone wanting to buy any dupes I might have had!

The dealer excuse is NOT bull.

There are plenty of reasons to register a set without having it open, not the least of which is that you have a written and verifiable inventory of your coins if something should happen to them.

It's not the dealer inquiries I mind. It's others bidding against me for fun or revenge when they know I need a coin.

PS - tgilliams - bite me.

The only email I have ever received is from someone asking if I had any duplicate 3 cent nickels ... 1883 MS... wish I had a dozen of them...

All of my sets are open for inspection... no pictures yet... I have not gotten the hang of posting them yet...someday...someday.

I am new to the forum but I feel I should atleast respond.
I have about 50 sets in the registry and none of them can be seen. Why do you feel just because you can't view it it shouldn't be up there? Just as much time and effort went into it if it is veiwable or not.
I choose at this time not to show them and that's my choice. Don't get me wrong, I will at some point SHOW OFF my sets, but not right now

  • I 100% agree with tgilliams.
    Hide sets need be deleted.
    It's just waste of space.
The more ridiculous is if be the #1 need be open to receive the award. A week after the owner hide again.
I believe that need be rule. Hide Set do not exist.period.

Sounds fair to me. My sets are viewable. If others want to hide their sets, that's ok with me.

Hidden sets are all part of the registry game. Like poker, not letting the other player see your hand until you open it showing all aces. I believe it is an advantage to not let others see what coins you are still seeking and as such, can pick them up for less than otherwise might be the case.

    To each his own...

Frankly, if a set doesn't have images posted, what the hell difference does it make whether or not it's hidden? I don't know about you guys, but looking at a bunch of grading numbers and no COINS doesn't really do much for me.
