  • What's going on on her face? Acne scars? image

On topic: Should the die crack effect the coin's value, or is it just a curiosity?

Also, die polish lines would also be raised, right? Can you always tell these apart from die cracks?

"I want to die peacefully in my sleep like my Grandfather did, as opposed to screaming in terror like his passengers."
  • This is caused from the die cracking from continued use. The raised lines are from the metal of the coin being forced into the cracks of die when being struck. Remember, the die has an incuse design which makes the coin have a raised relief when struck. So basically, where the raised lines appear is where the die has been cracked.

  • Would this grade poorly because of all those marks on her cheek?
  • She has fascinating die cracks, thank you for sharing this. This is an unusual and unique piece that I would keep if I were you. I would grade her AU53 due to the numerous rim nicks and marks on the cheek. Possibly cleaned. I'd estimate the value at around $10, assuming she's been cleaned. I think she has more conversational value than anything else, and I'd keep her.

Die cracks tend to be very steep and there will be few in one area--die polish lines, on the other hand, are lots of very small raised lines, like these:
