Canadian Uniface Trial Strike - NEED HELP IF YOU HAVE IT (pictures added).

I came across this coin in a collection a few days ago and need a bit more info. It is a Canadian Large Cent of Victoria. It is the same thickness and weight as a regular Large Cent of this period. I do not see it in Krause and was wondering if anyone knows more about it?

Many thanks!

  • I'm going to say that's it's a normal coin that was circulated, then pulled from circulation, reverse planed with the intention of making it into a love token. I've seen it for silver and copper-nickel coins, but not for bronze.

If it's been planed, you should be able to study the reverse and tell. In fact, I think I can make out lines indicative of that. Check the edge carefully too.

No, it weighs .15g MORE than an unc. Canadian large cent I checked and is also the correct thickness. I think I'll let ANACS have a go at it!

Try the CCRS. You'll have to register (free) and make your title attn: Bill. He knows a heck of a lot about Canadian Large Cents. I'll give ya $10 for the coin.
