Question for anyone familiar with Canadian proof gold, silver, platinum

I haven't really come over to the darkside much, but I have a question about a set of proof Maple Leafs I found going through my 'Big Box 'o Stuff to Sell.' The set is a three coin proof set dated 1989 containing a 1oz. silver Maple Leaf, 1/10 oz. platinum Maple Leaf, and 1/10oz gold Maple Leaf, all DCAM proofs. The coins are stored in a nice solid maple display box with felt lining and the whole thing is in a sturdy storage box. Carved into the lid of the Maple wood display case are the dates 1979 & 1989 with a Canadian Maple Leaf in the center. Looks nice. The COA within the set explains that it was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint as a ten year commemorative set for the Maple Leaf coins, which apparently were first minted in 1979. There were apparently 10,000 sets made (is that a lot or a little for Canadian proof sets?). I don't remember where I got the set, but have had it for a few years. I have checked periodically on Ebay for these sets and have never seen one come up. Anyone know much about them? It is a nice looking set, both the coins and the wood display case, but I am not particularly attached to it. If anyone can provide more info on these sets, I may move it over to the BS&T forum. I guess what I am really wondering is whether this is special as a set, or is this a case where the parts are worth more than the sum? Thanks to any Darksiders who can help...

1989 is the only year that the RCM issued proof Maple Leaf bullion coins. Besides what you have, they also issued a three coin set of gold, silver and platinum with each being 1 troy ounce size. I believe they also issued singles of gold, silver and platinum in 1 troy ounce size. The 1/10 were only issued with your set. They do come up on eBay every now and then but far in between. image

Since I'm a sucker for RCM packaging, I bought the proof silver Maple Leaf in the wood box. My 2002 Charlton said the market value is $40 Canadian, so I thought I waspaying full retail when I bought it for $25. I saw one on Colonial Acres' site for $43.95 US. image

Thanks for all the info. I moved it over to BS&T and it sold last night for $160. Neat set! Makes US mint products look very shabby.
