Grade the Wheatie :)

Hey all...

I'm a novice big time when it comes to Lincolns. Any help you can give as to the approximate grade of this 35P Wheatie would be appreciated. Thanks.

Given that it's tough to grade from a pic/scan, I'd say 65RD. The strike may be strong enough for a 66 (hard to tell), but the streak in the right obverse field will keep it out of a 66 holder, IMHO. Reverse looks very nice, as far as I can tell.

MS-65 Red...VERY close to a 66 except for a blemish infront of face that is a little too distracting to be a 66 or 67...

65RD beause of the smear by the nose. If the coin did not have as nice a color and strike the smear would bring it to a 64RD. A very nice GEM.

My first inclination was a 64rd because of the mark in front of the face, very distracting.

That's what made me say 64 RD, too. I find it distracting but not fatally so.

As I read through the messages, some people are saying 65, if it's a 65, I wouldn't want it, there are much better 65s out there.

I'll go back and read the other reponses after mine - I didn't want to cloud my judgement with that of others.

The rather large distraction on the obverse will preclude anything higher than MS65 on your coin. It otherwise has a strong strike and appears to have nice luster, so MS65RD it is.
