Goodbye cruel world . . . . (well not really) .........POST SURGERY UPDATE!.................

DMWJRDMWJR Posts: 6,005 ✭✭✭✭✭
I will be off for a few days because I'm having disc surgery Tuesday. All is expected to go well, as this surgery is done routinely nowdays. However, I can always use extra prayer, so I am making a request of my friends here on the boards to pray for success. Nothing is more important that one's health, and it is hard to call back surgery minor.

Anyway, I'll be back on as soon as I can, so please put me on your prayer list.

Thanks.
Doug

These days no surgery is minor. When I had my surgery, I ensured the doc was going to perform the correct operation on me and not chop off a leg or something, unfortunately, it happens. I was more worried about that than anything else.

I hope you have a successful operation and a rapid recovery!

I always look forward to reading your posts and will continue to look forward for them as you WILL have a fast and painless recovery! As no surgery is minor (I should know, I just had RT. ankle surgery exactly 6 months ago today) I will be praying for you and you will be my thoughts.

    Get well soon.

I'll be "back" here soon . . . . with a little less of my "back."

Thanks for the support, friends! One thing I have learned is that you can never have enough people praying for you. We have a company prayer list that circulates weekly, and my employees put me on the top of the list since it started, just to pray for me to have guidance and wisdom to lead our company. It has had a powerful effect in my opinion.

    Thanks to all!

I hope this doesn't gross you out, but here is a copy of a pic from my MRI. The white discs are healthy. They get dark as they deteriorate. Everybody's discs degenerate over time, but my family genetics seem to be "special" in that the degeneration is somewhat accelerated. Anyway the white line running vertical is the spinal sac, and the black vertical line is the spinal (sciatic) nerve. If you look down toward the bottom of the spinal column, you can see where two discs are bulging out and one is pressing through the sac right into the nerve.

And that's it for today's biology lesson.

  • Best wishes, DMWJR. I had reconstructive surgery on my shoulder last year and even that was scary for me. I think the scary part of it for me was the anesthesia but technology has come so far and the doctor's are so well trained that you really have nothing to worry about! I've had surgery 3 times and certainly hope I don't have to have anymore! Have a safe and rapid recovery and we hope to see you around here soon! Best of health to you.

Doug: Been there, done that, L4-5, 1984 during the Olympics here in LA. They've gotten a lot better at it since I had it. Keep your pain meds up and stay ahead of it; keep a positive attitude and hang tough. It's all over in a flash and I wish you a speedy recovery and much peace and comfort!! Man, I really didn't realize how many people cared. I almost didn't post this because I thought it was probably too trivial to most of you. I am deeply touched by each of your responses, and I know that with your thoughts and prayers, I will have relief from the pain and a speedy recovery. I can't thank each of your enough!

LAWMAN: L4/5 is the worst, although I have bulges at L3/4 and L5/S1. A little snipping around the edges, and I plan on being as good as new! If you had a compressed sciatic nerve, I can really sympathize. I couldn't begin to imagine having this problem in my neck! Good luck with yours.

    Doug
  • Good luck, Doug.
The good news is those are lower discs and less likely
    to cause complications.

The bad news is you're going to have to eat hospital food !!!

Unbelievable!!!! I had the surgery this morning, and it was very successful. I brought my laptop to the hospital, and they have a plug in, so I'm back on line. The pain in my leg is totally gone, and most of the feeling is back in my foot -- and this is the first day!!!!! I feel sooooo good!!!!!!! The morphine drip ain't bad either.

Back to my room this afternoon, and already did a coin deal!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to everyone for their support and prayers. I expect to go home on Thursday. I feel very blessed and fortunate.

Great. Just don't stay up too late typing on the computer and make
sure you're comfortable and move around because there are other
