Registry set rankings

If I have a SAE set 1986--->2004 all MS69 and someone else also has the complete set in MS69 what determines whos set is ranked higher.

All else being equal, assuming all are MS69, the set that is registered first appears ahead of the others. A good example of this is in the MS State Quarter series where many are tied for a position/rank, but they fall in order of when they were registered.
  • A little more clarification?

Is it the date when the set was first begun and registered or the date when it achived the current % of completion and points?

  • Herb,

    I'll venture a guess here...

As in the Statehood Quarter example above (where I have a set 100% complete at
PR69DCAM), I believe that its when the set was first registered. I base this on the
fact that I was a little late in posting my 2003 Silver Proofs. When I added my late
2003 coins, I moved up to join those also at 100% completion, but my placement
was back in the middle of the pack. I suspect that is shows that I started my set
after those above me and prior to those below me.

The same holds true with my Sacagawea Proof set. When I upgraded my 2003 to a
PR70DCAM, I moved up into the middle of the pack of the others at the same ranking.

Just a guess, but I think that it's as good as any...

Another guess might be that the rankings, when all else is tied, might be based on
which coins were graded first... I kind of doubt this idea though...

  • thanx for the input... I was thinking the coin # had something to with the ranking... been going nuts trying to compare #'s on various slabes to determine which one has a lower # thinking that a lower # would give a higher ranking.

    Who Really Cares ?????

    Are these Rare Coins?

  • I think Matt is correct is his assumption. I came to the same conclusion when I entered a new coin late into one of my sets.
  • Those who contributed something helpful, thank you.

    Others ...

    Matt,

I hope your analysis is correct. If a current submission of mine goes well, I'll move in to a tie for 5th All Time Finest in my favorite set, and I was registered first. image

    Russ,

That's great! My tied for 5th spot has me with two above and two below me. (And 88 tied for 10th)

I could be wrong, but I believe it is based on competion date. My PR St qtr set moved past many older sets because I completed 03
    early in the year.

As others have stated, if more than one collection is tied for a position, your ranking within that position is based on when you registered your set.

I registered a 1964 proof set some time back. When I upgraded the Kennedy to 69DCAM a few months ago, it moved me into a tie for Finest. There were already 3 (I believe) tied in the Finest spot. My set is currently listed 2nd in the tied for Finest catagory because of when I orginally listed my set.

Hehe, no. I love that little set, but I do have one I love more. image I have two 1967 SMS Kennedys in right now that should both grade DCAM, one at 67 and the other at 66. Adding an MS67DCAM to my proof Kennedy short set moves me up from 70.00 to 70.11, which ties up 5th place.

    Matt,

I am happy to report that your analysis was correct! My grades are in and I am now tied for 5th All Time Finest AND appearing on top! image BTW, instead of one 67DCAM and one 66DCAM, they both graded 67DCAM!
