Any E Card Collectors Out There?

I know this is a more appropriate topic for the Network 54 Board, but I thought I would throw this out as I have started collecting E cards over the last several months and wondered if any of the regulars on this board are also collecting these cards. I am focusing on E90-2, E92 (all backs), E95, E96, E97 and E102 so far. These sets have exactly what I like - small enough to make the complete set a manageable thing to attempt, but rare enough to make it a challenge. The biggest difference between the E card sets and some of the post-war sets I'm working on (1951 Topps CMAS and MLAS, 1954 Red Heart, 1955 All-American, 1968 Topps 3-D, 1971 Topps Greatest Moments) is that with E cards you have to be willing to collect lower grade stuff (mostly VG with some GD and some EX). Ex/Mt and NM cards are extremely rare and very expensive. Anyway, is anyone else collecting these?

    Colt-
Since Cracker Jacks are E cards (E145's I believe) I collect them, but I think for arguments sake most consider E cards Caramel cards, and not candy cards. I've seen some that have incredible color, and others that look like generic drawings. Guess you just have to pick the right set.
If you are looking for sources for caramel cards I've got a list, pm, email or give me a call. Bouncing cheese man has my number.
Seems like Caramel cards all of a sudden got discovered 2 years ago and prices started to really climb. Sizes seem to be all over the place so buying raw can be tricky til you really know the issue. Assume you have Lipset's book but if you don't it's required reading.

Always looking for Topps Salesman Samples, pre '51 unopened packs, E90-2, E91a, N690 Kalamazoo Bats, and T204 Square Frame Ramly's

  • I'm dying to start a E set and have toyed with the idea. But I have my hands full with T-205s.

Good luck. I wish there was more Pre-War talk on these boards. The Network 54 board is full of great people, but you have to wade through so many garbage threads to get to any of the intelligence.

The best thing about starting the "E" cards is you won't have me to compete with. I am so glad you have decided to do a set on your own. Just to let you know, I have been working on the 1934 batter ups in case you want to run me up on those too. Griffins is collecting Leaf cards also.
In all seriousness, I really can't believe you are starting these. You are going to be hard pressed to find those at the National, but at least you are collecting the real stuff.

I always thought the best of the E card candy genre was the E-98 set.

of which I own none image

Of course then you have D cards masquarading as E cards like the E104's.

of which I own none image

but ........the LOC has some sweeties.

Dave is a humble Bruce Springstein fan who has a fantastic collection of lots of cool stuff including photos of many sports heroes. Anthony, hoever is king! For the short time he has been collecting he not only knows a lot but has a mega bucks collection!

Hey Anthony!-ALL your Tango Brand Egg cards came from me pally~ ALL of them! I plopped $70,000 into those babies before marketing them. Dr.Scott has a very cool hoard I sold him and another guy you do not know blows us both out of the water now with 17 different! Too bad he does need our money! I have 75% of the E-97 black and white "proof" set my man! Now let's see you top that you "E" card lover you!

No need to top it, I can't come close. Other than CJ's I don't own a single E card. Mark Mcrae has a pretty incredible run of E cards too, along with your buddy Pete. If Mark didn't hate grading companies so much he'd probably have a lot of 1/1's, I flipped thru book after book of incredible sets- E90's, E91's, all the way thru Burdicks catalog listings.
    Dave-
There must be a F- listing for Wilson's since Burdock died in '63, but I rarely see them used for modern (post ww2) sets. And the Lipset book doesn't go that far. Tango's weren't discovered until much later, so they'd be
    F-unc. in the listing
So Brian, why is the E90-1 Mitchell so rare? Are there less of those than T206 Wagners?

I am very budget conscience and patient. I am not looking to tie up massive amounts of money into a baseball card set as other things are more important, so I am taking it slow and picking up one or two cards a month. It is a COLLECTION for me, and to make massive headway, would take a large INVESTMENT of money, which I don't want to do.

I'm not sure why it "cracks" you up, or why you think I am not focusing hard on it. I enjoy the way I collect.

If you want to PM me about some 205s that you might trade that would be great.
  • come on man,no offense. It's the "Current #1 finest" that would be amussing to those of us that pile big coin into our "collections". But I hear you. Incidently, I have eight children and another on the way but what could possibly be more important than a nice T205 set???

shoot me an e-mail address if you wish- Cardknowledge@earthlink.net-

    here is my SUPER set-
