Opinions please.

Opinions as to grade and if the toning is natural or artificial would be appreciated.

I know it's hard to grade from an image, but give it your best shot. image

The bottom is a nice natural end-roll piece.

I'd say the top one is natural as well, but you never know...

    Louis,

The 83-O, and especially the 84-O, are often toned in some odd-looking, purplish blue and red-brown colors that many viewers (espeically with scans) believe to be AT, but are not.

The 86-P is a classic example for this date with end roll toning. 85-P's are also found with similar colors.

Both are around 64 and both would holder. I don't think the top one looks EXACTLY the same colors as the picture.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    Louis,

Unfortunately, I believe the 83-O could be AT due to the different angles in which the obv. and rev. toning "streaks" run. If comparable "streaks" are on both sides of a NT coin, they are usually in the exact same "place" or angle. I hope I am wrong since the colors and order appear proper and are wonderful!

The 86 is an easy NT and attractive Morgan.

    Respectfully,

I was thinking strong 4 on both only because of the flatness on the ear.
Hard to see any significant contact marks on the `83 O. Nice.
End-roll toning is always cool looking.

  • I have always thought the purple in the top one as being "funny" to me. The old timers (GSAGUY) will probably say the toning is natural but there is something about the purple that makes me thing AT. I know exactly what that color looks like in person. We had a discussion about those colors about a year ago when they were in the auctions.

BTW you got those at pretty good prices.
