OT - Well maybe not

I sent a package to NGC. It was mailed on 1/15/04 and it arrived o 1/22/04. Why the hell does it take 7 days to get to Florida from Western New York when it only takes 4 days to get to Colorado? Both sent Registered Mailed. Sorry, just pissed at the PO for taking so long.

Both packages were sent within a day of each other. So the holiday should have effected both. I can't believe with all the airline flights going from Buffalo to Florida during the winter mail to FL would be quicker. I'm going to have to wait another 3 weeks until I get the 'slabs' back from NGC. image I want them NOW!image

It took 4 days for a package of mine to go from MN to GB - and we're not talking London. I'd say seven days within the US is ridiculous.

Don, if you would stop talking about our nations postal workers in the pejorative terms you do, perhaps they would move your packages a little faster.image

BTW - Are they taking Groundhog Day off again this year?

  • I have sent mail a few towns away that took days and days. I have sent mail across the country that arrived in no time. I think it's a crapshoot.
  • Wow, it only took 7 days to get a package from the back hills of Arkansas to Switzerland!

I routinely get mail quicker from the UK than from FL. The Pacific NW to WNY takes 2-3 days only.

Who in their right mind would head to Buffalo in January???
Even a dumb Southerner would wait for May or June.

My theory is that we it's because we pay too much for postage.image

Really, though, up through the 1980s I could tell beforehand which day it would arrive. I used to play a "play-by-mail" game of a company based in California. I could count on a precise one-week turnaround (excepting major holidays). If I mailed my turn on Wednesday, it would get there, be run and mailed promptly and be received on Tuesday. If I did my turn that evening and mailed it Wednesday, the cycle would continue reliably. Now, it's anybody's guess. The only difference is it now costs twice as much to mail a letter. As the postage rates ramped up, the reliability of delivery fell off in direct proportion, it seemed to me.

You still have one of the less expensive postage costs in the world.......image

    January 15th: MLK day.
January 16th: your package actually moved.
January 17th: your package sat in a post office somewhere.
January 18th: Winnie the Pooh Day.
January 19th: National Popcorn Day (also Penguin Awareness Day ).
January 20th: National Buttercrunch Day, also Penguin Awareness Day, again (apparently that's a two-day celebration, or penguin people are wishy-washy).
    January 21st: National Hugging Day
January 22nd: your package arrived, in spite of it being Celebration of Life Day and National Blonde Brownie Day.

I swear I did not make these up.
