Maundy Money - Some Info From Britannia

Thought I'd share this with you....
I trade heavily with a really good British dealer, creating perhaps seven large transactions per month. (He's not online). He sells a large volume of British stuff every month from a mailing list and he attends one particular coin fair per month.
He told me that for the past four months, virtually every Maundy single has been bought from his list by two main dealers (who are online). Now we are talking close on 100 coins. He keeps pushing his prices up and they still take the stock.
Just thought I'd mention it.
Anyone care to comment as to the reasoning behind this....

These are "singles" or "odds" we are talking about... not the full sets which are hard to make money on (or they were anyway) - The milled sets go back to around Charles II and come forward to today so the sets fetch varying prices.
I note that the dealers in question are not making up sets but just passing the coins on at a mark up. It appears that whatever they ask, people pay.... Like dealing coke really...

Believe it or not, if you're dealing in Britain, a tiny proportion of sales volume is due to continental Europe.

Is this an example of what you're talking about?

Come on over ... to The Dark Side!
They're gonna have to get up earlier than me next time
Last summer this dealer I'm talking about bought a big bag of maundy singles for £500 during a coin fair. Another main dealer asked him what he wanted for them. As a joke he said "£1,000 - have to double my money!". The guy gave him £1,000 cash before he'd finished talking and demanded the coins and a fiver back saying: "they're only worth £995".
He sold 'em
