Provenance rediscovered...

Turns out one of my favorite purchases from the Heritage NYINC sale has an illustrious provenance not noted in the catalog:

Benedetto Pistrucci, the designer

JG Murdoch, Sotheby, 1904

Baron Philippe de Ferrari La Renotiere, Sotheby, 1922

Capt. H E G Paget, Glendining, 1946

H M Lingford, Glendining, 1950

Herman Selig, Spink, 1999

Not bad, eh? image

Any other details from the previous descriptions? Any specifics on the alloy of the white metal?

All I can tell you is that Spink called it lead, not white metal.

    Very nice coin Andy!

Being able to reconstruct the provenance is a good thing. The time spent is always worthwhile in the end.

It's amazing how far money goes on the darkside, isn't it? Feels like US coins 20 years ago. image

MrEureka - Here's a Gobrecht half dollar splasher I let slip through my hands 17 (!) years ago for a "mere bag of shells". The Pistrucci splasher you just bought reminds me of that piece.

And "P Crn" = pattern crown. Isn't it obvious? image
