Has anyone bought from this Shanghai seller?

No familiar bidders for this lot, which has barely reached 1/3 of the Krause F value at this point.image

There are none of the obvious signs of counterfeits that so often show up in postings by sellers in China, but can any Shanghai seller be trusted?imagelink--->image<---link

A few of the coins look obviously fake. The others are probably better counterfeits.

  • Certainly better fakes, good enough to fool a typical collector not familliar with the series. I've got fake US and Mexican from Europe before, and I wasn't happy about it.

I see these fakes in the same plastic pages sold by street vendors here in Seoul. Stay away if you can't take a look at the coins in person.

    LOL
  • How about a few tips on the ones you spotted for sure Shiroh?

I didn't spot any of the porous fields, extra wide rims, clear calligraphy errors, or fantasy designs that I've come to know and love on counterfeits!image - just felt suspicious about that seller from his location, and some past auctions.

  • Hello everyone-
I don't know this seller, but I know this guy through his postings. He's got a great website on Chineses coin, and seems to know what he's talking about. There;'s been quite a spirited discussion on the Yahoo Groups ancient Chinese Coins mailing list about this. From looking at his links, I have a lot of confidence in his judgement:

    Dear list member.
I have created an internet page listing the dealers that have genuine Chinese coins on eBay. I hope you will send me an email if you have any additions, corrections or comments.

One should not confuse this seller with some of the other Far-East sellers of fake early U.S. coins. I don't think this is one of those sellers.
The one I have in mind come out of Singapore and sells counterfit trades and morgans.
